I was drawn to this flower because somehow it gave me a sense of completeness.
Its form, colour, structure and vibrancy. All seemed to come together and belong together. Nothing appeared out of place. The word that came to mind was 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆.
And it made me reflect.
Over the years, I have gathered so much within me – beliefs, experiences, expectations, and the need to comply. Some were consciously chosen. Most were not.
I learned what is acceptable, what is expected of me, what earns approval, and what keeps me safe.
Slowly, these experiences began to shape the way I think, feel and act. And maybe somewhere along the way, incongruence crept in.
There were times when what I thought, what I felt, and what I did were not quite in alignment. I continued functioning, but somewhere inside, something did not feel complete.
Perhaps that feeling of incompleteness comes from moving too far away from what is genuinely mine.
My authentic self may not have disappeared. It may simply have been blanketed. By roles, expectations, habits and beliefs I have carried for so long that I may no longer even recognise them as borrowed.
Coming back to myself is not about becoming someone new. It is about getting in touch again with what was always there. Listening to myself a little more closely. Noticing what feels true. Becoming aware of the beliefs and identities that have been quietly shaping me.
And gradually bringing my thoughts, feelings and actions back into conversation with each other.
