Taking photos of nature has become something I really enjoy. It’s a kind of passion.
And when I do, one of the most difficult subjects I have found is photographing a butterfly. It takes so much time.
They keep fluttering around. Just when I think one is about to settle, it moves again. So, I keep following it, waiting, watching, and hoping it will settle somewhere long enough for me to frame the shot.
I have often wondered what keeps them moving so restlessly and what finally makes them choose one flower over another. That’s for another day to explore.
When they finally settle, they often stay there for a while. That has been my observation.
This little observation has taught me something about #patience.
And photography has given me both #observation and patience. It has taught me that not everything can be hurried. Sometimes the more I chase, the more difficult the shot becomes. I just have to stay with the moment, watch closely, and wait.
I see a connection with life too.
We often want things to settle quickly. It may be a decision, an outcome, a relationship, a conflict, or an answer we are seeking. We keep moving around it, trying to make it happen.
But in the end, it takes its own time.
This gives me some clue about patience. It might not be about doing nothing, but about staying present long enough to recognize the right moment when it finally arrives.
Like this butterfly. It kept moving. And then, for a while, it stayed. That made my shot possible.
