Every morning, I get WhatsApp messages from different groups. Some are motivational quotes, some are those usual good morning messages, some are pictures, and so on.
I ignore most of them, but once in a while, a few stand out. These are the ones that really speak to me and make me stop and think.
One picture did just that. I found out it came from Zen Flow Daily.
The picture feels peaceful, and the quote is simple and to the point. Something about it just draws me in.
As I saw it, I started thinking: Am I walking on the paths of others, or am I creating my own?
And then I realized it’s actually both.
My life is shaped by what I have learned from others, my own experiences, and the beliefs and inspiration I get from the world around me. That’s one side of it.
But does that mean I lack originality?
But I have also made my own paths. I have tried new ways of doing things, pushed against the usual, experimented, and stepped out of my comfort zone. That’s what’s helped me grow.
Thinking about it more, I noticed something else.
Making our own path doesn’t always mean doing something big or completely new. Sometimes it’s about questioning what we have always accepted, choosing something others might not agree with, trying something even when we are unsure, or doing things differently because we think there is a better way.
Not every path we take leads somewhere important. Some end up being mistakes. Some take longer than we thought. Some even bring us back to where we began.
But even those journeys change us. We learn what works, what doesn’t, and maybe a bit more about ourselves.
I also think about how often we hold back from trying a new path. Not because we can’t see it, but because the familiar one feels safer.
It is comforting to know others have been there before us. It feels reassuring to follow what’s already worked.
Maybe that’s the real choice.
It’s not just about following someone else’s path or making our own, but about understanding why we choose one over the other.
The paths we take shape our lives, but the ones we create shape who we become.
